Medical Massage

Pain is always accompanied by muscle tension, tightness in the soft tissue and joint stiffness. Massage is one way to reduce the tension.

In my practice, I massage according to anatomical knowledge, aiming at releasing trigger points while also creating a generally soothing experience.

I always try my best to fit the massage to the needs of the client by first conducting a thorough physical assessment and speaking to the client about their pain and their tolerance for different kinds of touch.

Movement and Strengthening Techniques

Whether you suffer from musculoskeletal pain, neuropathic pain, or fibromyalgia, movement therapy will be an integral part of your healing. Movement that is adjusted to accommodate an injury is essential for overcoming stiffness, moving past pain and increasing blood and lymphatic flow that will assist in healing your injury.

Strengthening is a specific type of movement exercise which is invaluable for recuperating function after an injury and for maintaining function in chronic illness. I incorporate strengthening exercises according to the needs of my client after a thorough assessment. I use a variety of equipment for muscle strengthening, the choice of equipment will depend on the type of injury and the stage of recovery.

Recovery and Rehabilitation

Recovery means something different for each patient.

Sometimes I meet clients that need a one-off session to loosen up tightness and introduce new exercises into their personal movement practice. One example of this is tightness in the neck and shoulders from work related stress.

Injuries, whether old or new, require a series of treatments in order to accompany the patient through a process of reducing pain and stiffness, lessening swelling, and recovering movement by fitting specific exercises to the stage of recovery. If the injury affects daily function, physical therapy will accompany the patient through the rehabilitation process by helping the patient achieve functional goals in a certain time frame.

One example of this is the recovery process after a muscle tear such as a tear in the supraspinatus muscle of the shoulder, or after a sprained ankle which involves ligament tear (ATFL).

Long term or chronic illness may require long term physical therapy that helps maintain the patient at a certain level of function by helping to balance between the illness and the patient's functional goals. One example of this is maintaining the ability to walk outside for someone with a chronic neurological illness.

Personalized Care Approach

I have a home clinic where I personalize care treatments for my patients. For patients coming with pain or soreness I work with medical massage, taping, dry needling techniques and more. For patients with muscular weakness or loss of function I work with movement and strengthening techniques to help strengthen and recover function.
